The Monuments: Built in 1994 for the 50th Anniversary



In this place, during the night of 18 July 1944, in the course of a parachute drop for the Maquis (French Resistance), two Allied aircraft collided. Fifteen American and British airmen perished for our freedom. They shall be forever glorified.

To our friends the English and American airmen and to the valiant Russian soldier who fell gloriously to Earth in the town of Marigny-l’Eglise on July 19, 1944, for our deliverance.

In this area many tons of weaponry were dropped by parachute as well as jeeps and British 57mm guns, from June until September 1944. In the course of an operation on July 18, 1944, two Allied planes collided, resulting in 15 deaths. See the Marigny-l’Eglise cemetery.
